AUSTIN SPOTLIGHT 2025
OFFICIAL SELECTION

SEPT 20TH AT SOUTHWEST LAKE CREEK 7

Run With The Antelope

Merlin David Lugo

Kirby Allen Dallas is proud to be a Texas Aggie. He is in a terrible fix. His workaholic dad cuts him off financially after 6 years of college. He unintentionally proposes to his girlfriend. He accidently runs over Reveille, a miniature collie and beloved school mascot, and must leave Aggieland for his own safety.

When Kirby tries to move back home, he finds out that his divorced mother is re-marrying the widowed pastor of her church and is moving to south Texas. An army recruiter discovers that Kirby has dropped out of school and begins to pursue him. The female psychologist that his mother referred him to develops a codependent crush on him and begins to stalk him. His conservative values and lifestyle clash with the therapist’s worldview who is convinced that she has to save him. After his best friend's mother takes him shopping, the therapist believes that he is having an affair with an older woman (Ala Mrs. Robinson) and so organizes an intervention for Kirby with his family and friends.

The more Kirby tries to get a life, the worse things get. His deepest desire is to return to the life that he loves at Texas A&M, but he can't because he has to go get a job and get a life. He gives it a good old American try but it seems like he is not good at anything except losing his jobs.

“Run with the Antelope” is the epic failure of one young man's attempt to find his place in the world. It is a cross between “Napoleon Dynamite” and “Forrest Gump.” This comedy is in line with the adult humor found in “King of the Hill.”
