Director-cinematographer Annie Gunn captures Amy Annelle’s beguiling performance of the song “East Texas Son,” and builds an elliptical narrative around the song’s lyrics—a cautionary tale of duplicity—where Annelle is beckoned and eventually swallowed up by the primordial landscape. Gunn aimed to create textured black and white images inspired by enigmatic East Texas, and animated by the site’s ancient live oaks, buzzing meadows, and swirling waters.
