What Waters Stain the Innocent

After soldiers massacre his village, 14-year-old Kwizera is forced into a fortified labor camp run by the charismatic but cruel Uncle Thomas. Disguised as an irrigation project, the camp breaks children through ritual, fear, and false family. Haunted by the ghosts of his lost father and brother, Kwizera clings to a single hope: escape.

He studies the camp’s failing water system, seeing in the trenches not just captivity, but a weapon. With the vulnerable Gato and the hardened Karakezi, he plots a daring flood-powered breakout. But trust is fragile here, and loyalty is traded for survival. As the plan tightens, so does Uncle Thomas’s grip — and not everyone will make it out alive.

In a night of drowning currents and sacrifice, Kwizera must confront the man who stole his childhood, using the only tools he has left: a skipping stone, the voices of his dead, and the water meant to enslave him.
